How psychological therapy can treat depresssion

Depression drains life of joy, makes the sufferer feel overwhelmed by an expectation of relentless numbness. Depression is not simply feeling occasionally low but an absence of happiness and a sense of hopelessness about feeling joy. Life becomes incredibly hard work and everyday tasks can be literally exhausting. No one wants to waste their life, but depression makes it feel like a waste. People struggling with depression need empathy, support and the knowledge and empowerment to make some difficult changes and beat their depression. Living with depression feels like a life sentence and overwhelmingly painful.

In therapy we start off by understanding all the complexities that caused your depression. Then we strategise how to understand each of the causes and try to resolve your thoughts around them. You can then start to control your thoughts and stop the plummeting of your mood. We help you to find the kindness to yourself to stop the guilt, criticism, sadness, shame and low self esteem, which maintains your depression.

We use a mixture of:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Person centred approaches
  • Schema focused work
  • Attention to negative scripts
to help you understand and change your thoughts. This may feel impossible but I assure you it's not.

Entering into therapy can cause you worry, but I will ensure that we make the process as supportive and effective as possible. I am a registered doctor of psychology with 15 years post qualifying experience, chartered and accredited by the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professions Council.

Therapy can take place at either of my locations Harley Street, or Wandsworth. The average is usually 10 weekly sessions with some cognitive tasks in between.

Sessions cost £160 and I am a service provider for all the main health insurance providers. I have evening and daytime availability.
